The Canmore Nordic Centre is Canada's premier cross-country skiing
and biathlon venue. It was constructed for the 1988 Winter Olympics and hosted the nordic and biathlon events, and continues to be used to host regional, national and international events every winter. The facility has a stunning 60 km (37.3 mi) of trails for skiing, hiking and mountain biking. One can take a relaxing walk through the woods, challenge oneself to a formidable cross-country ski trail used for training by world-class athletes, or enjoy the centre in summer when the trails are open to mountain bikers. This popular recreation area surrounds Quarry Lake and offers views of Mount Lady MacDonald and Ha Ling Peak. While there are no lifeguards on duty, the lake is often used for swimming during the summer months.
