    Northwest Mounted Police Barracks
    A Provincial Historic Site, the 1892 barracks was built as a response to the bootlegging ways of early Canmore residents. Inside the mud-chinked log structure are furnishings, artifacts and a tearoom, while out back is a small garden. Sat-Sun 1-4 pm; June-Aug Wed-Sun 10 am-6 pm and Mon-Tues 1-4 pm, depending on volunteer availability. Donations.

    Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre
    Traces the town�s rich railway and coal mining history. Changes chronicles 100 years through voices and photos of 28 longtime residents. Mounted buffalo Bud arrives Feb as a preview to A Sense of Place (opens Oct)--human habitation and land development. Also displays of vintage climbing, backcountry skiing and mountain photography equipment, as well as tributes to the 1988 Winter Olympic Games (partially hosted by Canmore). The Geoscience area explores the formation of the Rockies, the Devonian reef and the origins of Canmore coal. Gift, book and educational toy shop. Geoscience library. Mon-Fri noon-5 pm, Sat/Sun/hol 11 am-4 pm (wknd hrs may change). $3, sen/stu $2, -9 free.
